1. Premierhost infrastructure

The architecture of Premierhost is designed specifically with performance and security in mind. The system combines the technical capability of an Enterprise class company, the security of a mission critical data centre, and the network infrastructure of a leading Internet Service Provider allowing you to run your online business worry free.

The Premierhost service provides a highly reliable and secure environment for your web site. This includes the following elements:

1.1 Firewall protection

The Premierhost servers are protected on the network on a number of levels. All machines are protected by a pair of redundant Cisco Secure PIX firewalls. The Cisco Secure PIX Firewall is the dedicated firewall appliance in Cisco's firewall family and holds the top ranking in both market share and performance. The Cisco Secure PIX Firewall delivers strong security and, with market-leading performance, creates little to no network performance impact.

1.2 Data centre security & network infrastructure

Premierhost has partnered with Level 3 to provide state of the art data centre facilities. The data centre provides high physical security and a reliable environment to house the servers. The server room is protected by closed-circuit video surveillance, 24 x 7 network monitoring, access cards and palm scan identification and is fully climate-controlled using state-of-the-art airflow technology.

The data centre provides high availability power and network infrastructure. The network is tier 1 and fully redundant providing high capacity global interconnects to major carriers and public exchanges. The power is fully redundant consisting of two grid independent primary feeds. If for any reason these feeds fail the power is supplemented by a suite of batteries until the diesel generator, on site, starts and comes on line. The diesel generator will then supply power until the grid power is restored. The server farm is monitored remotely and Premierhost has 24 x 7 access to the data centre for maintenance.

1.3 Servers

The Premierhost servers are Compaq enterprise servers with redundant power supplies and disks all with hot swap capability running in a mirrored array. This ensures that the uptime of the system is amongst the best in the industry.

1.4 Backups

All data from Premierhost is backed up on to a tape storage device daily, so in the event of a major hardware failure your data will always be safe.
